Nature gives many gifts which not only brings beauty to life, but can help fight the battle of the rising cost of energy. Proper use of plantings such as trees and shrubs can have a dramatic effect on heating and cooling the home.

By providing windbreaks of evergreens on the northern and western sides of a house and leaving the southern side exposed, cold winter winds can be blocked and the sun from the south can help warm the home.

By planting decidious trees those which lose their leaves each fall on the south side of the home, the sun will provide warmth in the winter months when the leaves are gone and will help cool the home and surrounding area during the hot summer months thus reducing the need for heating and air conditioning.
