Members of the Diet, Exercise, and Behavior Class currently being held by the Extension Office are learning that weight reduction is usually a long-term project. You need to develop new food preferences and cooking methods, to. adjust to eating small amounts of foods and to become more active.

The most effective way to maintain a diet adequate in nutrients but low in calories is to reduce intake of “empty calorie” foods such as chips, candy, cake, cookies, etc. These foods are considered "empty calorie” because they provide calories from carbohydrates and fat but only negligible amounts of other nutrients.
