Founder Cornelius Smith raised a large family. One son, Hugh Smith, lived at Clover Hill outside Woodville and continued his father’s tradition by siring 12 children. Hugh’s daughter Elizabeth married Griffin Durant and their son, Oliver Durant, still lives just over the hill in Culpeper County.
Another one of Cornelius’s daughters married John B. Miller, owner of Mt. Vernon Farm at Sperryville. Their grandson, John Clifford Miller of Richmond, is the farm’s current owner.
