this year on a newly constructed announcer’s stand where all can see and hear.
Pat Fischer, all-pro cornerback for the Washington Redskins, will present the trophy in the ninth race. Mr. Fischer is well-known in the area not only for his football prowess but also as a breeder and raiser of thoroughbred horses at the Virginia Stallion Station in Middleburg.
The Rappahannock pony race, for juniors, sixth on the card, will be run at two thirds of a mile. The race conditions as printed on the invitations stated “2-3 miles,” which could be misinterpreted.
Spectators at this year’s races will receive information and commentary on horses, riders and individual races by Ron David from the an nouncer’s stand. He will use a new public address system specially installed to provide more speakers and improved overall sound for the entire crowd. Tickets will be available at the gate. General admission is $2.50; children under 12 are admitted free. Food and beverages will be sold on the grounds. The public is cordially invited to attend this sports-filled day. Mrs. Chester W. Fannon Jr., Castleton, is Secretary for this year’s races.
