Senior

Citizen

Wanted

For the third consecutive year. Congressman J. Kenneth Robinson is seeking applications from 7th Congressional District residents aged 60 or older who would like to serve two weeks in Washington during the springtime as his Congressional Senior Citizen Intern.

The internship program for older Americans is scheduled this year from Monday, May 8th, through Friday, May 19th. It enables persons in or nearing retirement from around the U.S. to spend a brief period in the nation's capital participating in an indepth educational program devoted to governmental processes and U. S. programs of interest to senior citizens.

Participants receive special briefings from Administration and Congressional spokesmen, and spend part of their time working in their Congressional office. They are paid a small stipend for their expenses. Most reside in the same hotel in Washington during their internship. Their evenings and weekends are left open for sight-seeing.

In urging those interested to write to him, Robinson noted that, "to be eligible, you need to be 60“ or older, a resident of the Seventh District and, since a fair amount of walking is involved in attending various meetings, applicants should also be in good health.”

Those desiring to apply for Robinson's internship position may write to him c-o the U. S. House of Representatives, Washington, D. C. 20515. Applicants are asked to describe their personal background and to outline the reasons for their interest in the program. The deadline for submitting applications is April 1.

The Senior Citizen Internship program began a few years ago as an experiment, and each successive year more and more Representatives and Senators have decided to hire a temporary employee to take advantage of its workshops, briefings and related activities.
