Begins Well

Early season results look good for the Rappahannock girk varsity track and field team after an easy victory last week over Page County. Ann Thomas and Liz Freeman both ran comparable time to what they did last year in state competition, and several ninth grade runners competed on varsity level in the meet. Score was 83 for Rappahannock and 20 for Page.

As indicated in the results, the RCHS varsity took first place in 13 of 14 events, and swept four events with the first three places. Time for the sprints and distances in the jumps were poor due to bad track conditions. As freshmen, both Mary Jordan and Bobbette Swindler had outstanding performances.

Results of the meet:

First, second and third place respectively were taken by Mary Jordan, Janice Aylor and Rhonda Estes in Shot; Janice Aylor, Kathy Jenkins and Wendy Jenkins in long jump; Johanna Day, Bobbette Swindler and Natalie Swindler in high jump; Lynell Prudhum, Ronda Wiley and Bobbette Swindler in hurdles.

In the 440 relay in first place were Laura Tupper, Debbie Seal, Wendy Jenkins and Rhonda Brown; the 880 first, Natalie Swindler, Jackie Myers, Janice Aylor and Lynnell Prudhum; the mile, first, Jennifer Raney, Ronda Wiley, Johanna Day and Dee Welch.

In first and second place respectively were: discus, Jennette Beebe and Donna Gore; 440, Ronda Wiley and Jennifer Raney; mile, Ann Thomas and Liz Freeman. Taking first and third, respectively were Dee Welch and Jackie Myers in the 100 yard dash; Liz Freeman and Sheila Scott in the 880; and Ann Thomas and Sharon Settle in the two mile. Debbie Seal was third in the 220 yard dash.

Chitterling Dinner

There will be a chicken and chitterling dinner at the home of Mrs. Catherine Carter in Washington, Saturday, April 14, beginning at 4 p.m. for the benefit of the Rappahannock County High School Senior Class.

Prices are $3.00 or takeout services can be arranged for $3.50.
