This is precisely the issue which led the League to question last fall a faulty amendment to the zoning ordinance and to write the Board of Supervisors recently asking for an explanation of the procedures employed with regard to the Alpine Slide proposal. Once loopholes are opened in the county ordinances for any would-be developer, the record of Virginia court decisions makes it clear that everyone must be allowed the same lenience.
The Izaak Walton League believes the county should scrupulously apply the rules it has so carefully crafted over the years. Should a court determine that some of these rules are vague and unenforceable, the response should be to improve the rules; we should not givp up on the concepts which led to their formulation.
