Capital Outlay
Meeting
The Rappahannock School Board will hold a special work session on Tuesday, April 17, at 7:30 in the elementary school library to discuss capital outlay plans. The meeting has been scheduled at the request of the board of supervisors who last week asked the school board to come up with priorities within four individual building projects.
Previously, the school board had ranked expansion needs as (1) high school, (2) elementary school, (3) school bus garage and (4) central administrative offices.
“The chairman indicated he wants us to take each project and determine the number one priority (within that project),’’ superintendent William Bloomer informed the school board at Tuesday’s meeting. As an example, he said the board must determine what needs are most pressing at the high school—classroom space, library expansion or cafeteria expansion. The board’s decision with alternatives to construction plans already presented, is to be ready for the supervisors by May 3.
Market
The Farmers’ Market will open Friday, May 4 instead of the following day as previously reported. The site chosen for the market is at the new Rappahannock Farmers’ Cooperative building on Route 211 between Washington and Sperryville.
Flint Hill
VFD Officers
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Dept, and Rescue Squad elected officers at their March meeting.
They are H. S. Barksdale. President; Herbert Foster. Vice-President; Moe Walker. Secretary and Emory Russell, Treasurer. Earl Duvall and Charles Foster were elected to the Board of Directors.
Line officers are Frank E. Huff, Chief; Harry G. Turnmeyer, Assistant Chief; Thurmon Whorton, 2nd Assistant Chief; Kenny Pullen, 3rd Assistant Chief and also Rescue Squad Captain.
Frank B. Huff declined to seek reelection as Rescue Squad Captain for health reasons. He was captain of Washington Rescue Squad for 14 years and served 14 years with the Flint Hill unit.
