Dr. “Ernie” Schlabach of Harrisonburg today announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination to the Virginia Senate, representing Harrisonburg and the counties of Rockingham, Page, Madison, Culpeper and Rappahannock. Self-labeled as a moderate, Dr. Schlabach stated his candidacy was a new chapter in his life dedicated to serving the public. Quoting sections of the Jaycee Creed as the theme for his candidacy he said, “Government should be of laws rather than of men and that service to humanity is the best work of life.”
As a former school teacher at Luray High School, Schlabach is concerned with upgrading the public education system. A past member of the Task Force on Administration of Harrisonburg Public Schools, the candidate would like to see an upward swing in the quality of education our youth receive along with better facilities. He also lectured at James Madison University, Bridgewater College and Eastern Mennonhe College.
