Bike-A-Thon
To Benefit CF
Mrs. Edward Bailey of Washington and Ms. Vickie Pittard of Flint Hill have been named county chairmen for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s fund raising Bike-A-Thon planned for Rappahannock this spring.
Cystic Fibrosis is an incurable genetic lung disease that strikes one in every 1,600 children. These children must follow a rigorous schedule of daily physical therapy; inhalation of aerosoles to loosen mucus; and special medications including antibiotics, digestive enzymes and vitamins.
Little more than a decade ago, most CF babies died in pre-school ages. Thanks to improved therapy and expanded research, increasing numbers of individuals with Cystic Fibrosis are surviving to adolescence and adulthood.
Funds raised in the BikeA-Thon will go towards research and treatment of this disease. Volunteers who would like a sponsor sheet may contact Mrs. Bailey at 675-3330 or Ms. Pittard at 675-3370.
