Local meetings to discuss the proposed merger of Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative and Virginia Electric Cooperative will be held Friday, May 18, at the Methodist Church in Amissville and Tuesday, May 22, at the Cooperative auditorium in Culpeper. Both meetings will begin at 7:30 p.m.
According to a press release from general manager Edwin Kann, the proposed consolidation is an effort “to control the rising cost of doing business.”
The release lists study findings that show consolidation will:
—result in substantial financial savings which will help slow the rising cost of electric power,
—improve service to many members,
—allow savings through combining substation and feeder lines,
— improve financial stability,
—improve staff expertise,
— eliminate many duplicated administrative functions.
The boards of directors of Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative and Virginia Electric Cooperative have voted to recommend to the membership of each cooperative that the two consolidate. This consolidation will require a
