Team spirit and unity are the keys to the outstanding performances turned in by the RCHS girls varsity track team, according to coach Ann Spieker.
Cheered on by their teammates, the Lady Panthers crushed Luray and William Monroe at a tri-meet held April 11 and then finished third behind Loudoun Valley and Park View in the nine-team Strasburg Invitational meet last Saturday.
“The support given by each athlete to her teammates could give us a very successful season,” said Spieker. "The spirit’s making them do it—they want the Skyline Championship again,’’ she said, adding that her girls were doing better than she had expected.
Rappahannock had no first place winners in the Strasburg meet but tallied 58 points with record-setting second and third place finishes. Johanna Day, third jif the high jump, broke the RCHS record in that event with a leap of 5’1”. Lynnell
