Piedmont District Supervisor candidate Cecil Baldwin, who operates the Shell station in Sperryville and is an active member of the rescue squad there, said she would like to learn more about what goes on in Rappahannock County, particularly in regard to the public school system and county zoning ordinances. If elected, she pledged to represent the wishes of her constituents.
Current supervisor chairman E. P. Luke stated that he has tried to represent the best interests of the people in Piedmont District during his six years on the board. Luke, a retired Air Force officer and graduate of VPI with a masters degree from the University of Chicago, noted that he has served on the county planning commission and the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission while a supervisor.
In political philosophy, Luke said he is a conservative and endorsed the “tight ship” fiscal policy that has kept the county’s tax rat" stable. “I support our zoning and subdivision ordinances because they give us some control on growth,” he said.
