He told the supervisors that reconstruction of the bridge at Rock Mills is now under way. He added that he didn’t know what could be done to prevent future flooding in that area. “That’s something we have to live with,” Askew maintained.
Improvements to the road leading to Peyton Farms ^re in the six-year plan, Askew said, adding that he will soon meet with residents from the area in an attempt to work out right-of-way problems.
‘‘What about Chester Gap?” asked Eastham.
“We have a contract, thank the Lord,” Askew replied. He added that he doubted whether Rider Construction Company of Warrenton, low bidders on the road project, would try to do much this winter.
With the consensus of the board to add improvements on Routes 621, 680 and 637 to the six-year plan, supervisor Dick Latham asked if Askew would “skim a little off all projects” to raise the necessary funds.
Askew replied that it won’t be necessary to take money from other work already approved in the plan. “We've got a little built-in flexibility," he said. In conclusion, Askew told the board members that he would have the revised sixyear plan ready for approval by the supervisors at their November 1 meeting.
