Visits to Shenandoah National Park for September continue to show the decline exhibited throughout all of 1979, according to statistics released by Park, superintendent Robert Jacobson.
In 1979 during September 172,700 persons toured the park compared to 225,300 for the same month in 1978. The drop amounts to a decrease of 23.3 per cent.
For Calendar Year 1979, visits total 1,175,000. During the same period in 1978, the park had 1,533,200 visitors.. Again, the decrease is 23 per cent.
Overnight stays also show a decline from 69,570 in September, 1978, to 52,125 in September, 1979.
Big Meadows weather station readings for the month give a high of 75 degrees and a low of 40 degrees with precipitation totaling 17.9 inches.
