I’m familiar with the problems other counties have faced and we are now facing in this county. This gives me an extra benefit, an extra way of looking at things, an extra way of solving problems.”
In addressing the school issue, Kilpatrick noted that the supervisors “can almost do nothing legally” except to either approve or cut the budget presented by the school board. “The flow has to come from the school board to spend more money on the schools,” he stated.
According to Kilpatrick, the county high school was “packed to the gills” when it first opened with later additions of classroom space doing nothing to improve the situation.
“It’s hopelessly overcrowded,” he maintained. “The high school needed to be expanded four years ago and nothing was done. The elementary school needs to be expanded today.” Kilpatrick noted that state pressure to provide two
