There are several area and state-wide conferences coining up this fall and winter that should be of interest to Rappahannock residents. Early registration is required by some so start planning now.
"Protecting and Preserving Rural Land Uses—Issues, Problems and Institutions.” This conference is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, December 5-6 in Fredericksburg. The conference is sponsored by Virginia Tech, The Virginia Water Resources Center, The Taylor Murphy Institute, and the Piedmont Environmental Council, and is designed for farmland owners, elected officials, planners, and other persons interested in protecting and preserving land for agricultural and forestry uses. Advance registration is required.
Farm Management Institute—for farmers and their wives. Three weeks in 1980. January 20, February 3, and February 17. This is the most comprehensive farm business management course taught in Virginia. Subjects include marketing, fertilizer, economics, leasing, machinery economics, labor, programmable calculations, budgeting, farm records, financial management, investment analysis, tax management and more. If you have a son who will be taking over the management of the farm operation someday, I recommend you encourage him to take this course. Also, recommended for Mom and Dad.
