Unemployment in the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District (PD-9) continues to be below the national average and the employment rate in Fauquier County has risen significantly.
The Virginia Employment Commission says that in September the unemployment rate in PD-9 stood at 3.6 per cent of the civilian labor force, contrasted with rates of 4.5 per cent for Virginia and 5.6 per cent for the nation.
Fauquier, Culpeper, Orange, Madison and Rappahannock Counties are included in PD-9.
In September, there were 1500 more persons employed in PD-9 than in the same month last year.
Fauquier and Orange counties showed the greatest increases in employment rates—6.1 per cent and 7.5 per cent respectively—over last year. Employment in Culpeper County increased by 1.2 per cent over last year while there was no change in Madison County. Rappahannock County experienced a 7.3 per cent decrease in employment.
