Market Opens

On Saturday

The Rappahannock Farmers Market will open its 1980 season this Saturday, May 24, at 9 a.m.

Early vegetables on sale fresh from local gardens will include collard greens, onions, lettuce and radishes as well as home-canned fruits and vegetables, bread, cakes, pies and other baked goods.

Prints and collages made by Rappahannock senior citizens under the direction of Laurie Marshall, program chairman for the market, will also be on exhibit.

Mary Beth Martin, wife of Dr. Jerry Martin, will officially open the market as part of Saturday’s ceremonies. A long-time activist on behalf of improvements in the county’s public schools, Mrs. Martin is presently working towards a Master of Arts degree in education from the University of Virginia.
