Clatterbuck finally arrived, brought the pressure in the boiler down, left and then was called back at 3 p.m. to discover the fire box crammed with coal, enough to fill a pick-up truck, according to Eastham. In this afternoon emergency, the school was not evacuated, Eastham said.

Steam Circulated

Thursday morning, with only SO gallons of water in the pipes out of a 2,000 to 3,000 capacity, the boiler was fired up again, circulating super-heated steam, he continued. This created the danger of a blow-out in the c 1 a s srj? o ms, Eastham maintained. Clatterbuck returned and brought the boiler back under control.

Eastham reported that when he and Stokes arrived, the boiler was being readied for refiring solely to provide hot water for the kitchen. Although Clatterbuck agreed to operate the unit manually, Eastham and Stokes determined that the only safe option lay in shutting the boiler down until inspection by a certified individual.
