Ihree years ago, she quit looking. Millie bought a horse at a Charles Town claiming race and she*s been off and running at the track ever since. She started off this season with six and went down to three after Space Mash was claimed in Pennsylvania. Millie’s granddaughter is still wiping the tears away after losing her favorite in Grandma’s string. But putting business before sentiment, Millie reported that Space Mash brought home nine wins and six seconds in the two years she owned the animal. In addition to the purses and side profits at the betting window, Millie paid only $2,000 for the mare and sold her for $5,000.
The star of the Cebula stable is Marmasett, a brown mare purchased for $3,000 from Mrs. Neva Montgomery of Warrenton. With her trainer Harry Thompson, Millie was horse hunting when she saw Marmasett. She was impressed by the five-year-old’s size. ‘‘She’s a big horse. She’s got big feet and legs. She looked real strong—like a distance horse,” Mrs. Cebula recalled.
