Col. Luke noted that the only item cut by the supervisors was the appropriation for a double modular unit at the elementary school. The $40,650 for the trailer was first added after submission of the rest of the budget and then withdrawn, all at the request of the school board.
With a few exceptions, the budget is based on maintaining county services at their current level. The appropriation for the office of commissioner of revenue shows a substantial increase (77 per cent), reflecting both costs of transferring county tax records to computer and salary hikes mandated by the General Assembly. The allocation for county treasurer climbs by 53 per cent, likewise the result of state mandated raises.
