A long-standing feud erupted in violence in Castleton last Saturday night, leaving a 40-year-old Fredericksburg man dead from a shotgun wound.
Jimmy Franklin Hitt died shortly after midnight in Culpeper Memorial Hospital after being struck by a 12gauge shotgun blast in the leg. The weapon was fired by Glenn Hitt of Castleton, no relation, allegedly in selfdefense, according to deputy E. W. Thompson of the Rappahannock sheriff’s department.
According to reports, Jimmy Hitt arrived at the residence in a pick-up truck with a friend late Saturday afternoon, had a conversation with Glenn Hitt and left, headed toward Castleton. He returned a short time later and "it appears that some shooting went on outside,” Thompson reported.
