The proposed 1980-81 county budget advertised by the Rappahannock board of supervisors for public hearing calls for a tax rate of $4.50, an increase of 30 cents per $100 of assessed value over the current levy.
The supervisors have scheduled the hearing on the budget for their regular meeting on June 2 at 10 a.m. in the court house.
To keep the tax rate at a politically acceptable level with only a seven percent hike, the supervisors have drawn heavily from the county’s accumulated surplus, proposing transfer of approximately $110,000 to the general fund. This will leave the surplus at $83,920.
