Who gave you orders to take care of the boiler room?” Eastham asked the custodian.
“I think Mr. Wingfield told me about the boiler room,” Williams replied.
Superintendent Bloomer reported that the state certified inspector who checked the boiler Monday determined that the furnace could safely be returned to use.
The inspector also found Clatterbuck qualified for maintenance and operation of the boiler, according to the superintendent, and noted that a maintenance program was “desirable and necessary to prevent further accidents.”
The inspector further recommended in his oral report to Bloomer that replacement parts be installed as soon as they are received.
Specific suggestions included cleaning the collected soot from the boiler and replacing flange and seal gaskets during the summer. The inspector offered “to spend a day instructing the individual responsible on the day-to-day operation (of the boiler),” Bloomer said. In addition, the inspector recommended the boiler be gone over thoroughly in a summer maintenance check.
"When can we expect a written report (from the inspector)?” Eastham demanded.
“When I get it out of the mail,” replied the superintendent.
