In his report to the school board, Gatterbuck said the inspector had found the boiler ‘‘in pretty good working condition” aside from “a leak here and there” and need for “a few minor repairs.” He noted that replacement pieces to complete repairs are currently on order.
“We haven’t had a moment’s trouble since Friday,” Clatterbuck reported, adding that the. furnace had been refired after the inspector's visit on Monday. Referring to earlier boiler troubles that resulted in furnace shut-off last February, Clatterbuck maintained the malfunction then was the result of a “bad load of coal.” ^ In reply to school board chairman Beverly Massie, Gatterbuck explained that the furnace has two 2-inch safety valves and one 1-inch safety valye, “all in good working condition.”
