Flexibility Needed
Miller countered that he wanted the board to maintain its flexibility in deciding on individual merits whether to finance projects or return to the supervisors any unexpended school board funds. "Financial and fiscal responsibility isn’t the issue...I don’t think anybody doubts the fiscal responsibility of this board," he added.
“Would you handle your private finances in the same manner?" asked Eastham. "Would you rush to spend every cent that you have in your savings account?"
“I always spent public funds like they were my private funds,” Miller responded, adding that this probably accounted for his being labeled as too conservative by some of his critics.
