Board Hires
11 Teachers
Following two and a half hours in executive session at last Thursday’s special "payout” meeting, the Rap^ pahannock school board returned to open session to hire 11 teachers for the 198081 term, 10 for the elementary school and an earth sciences instructor for RCHS.
The new appointments leave the number of vacancies at six.
Of the 64 teachers in the county s public school system last year. 21 will not be back in 1980-81, a turn-over rate of 32 per cent. The elementary school staff has been hit hardest by departures with only 16 out of 32 returning, an attrition rate of 50 per cent.
In addition to the 21 teachers who have left the system, the administration must find personnel for two positions approved by the school board in learning disabilities and gifted and talented resource. With the two additional slots, 35 per cent of the faculty in Rappahannock schools will be teaching here for the first time next year. In 1979-80. 25 of 5 teachers or 40 per cent, were new to the county’s public school system.
