The Rappahannock sheriffs department has reason to believe that a gang of “flim-flam” men is operating in the county.
Two weeks ago, an elderly woman in Sperryville area was approached by three men accompanied by a young child who offered to paint her house for labor charges only, according to deputy E. W. Thompson III. After receiving $650 in cash, the group sprayed half the dwelling and then left, heading toward Luray on Route 211. "It’s believed that the paint won’t hold up if it rains,” Thompson said.
He noted that reports of a similar operation have been received from Shenandoah County police.
