Severe Cold Weather Can Be
Dangerous to your Feet!
The past few weeks of severe cold weather have caused a rash of foot problems. In our office we have seen a number of people with symptoms of frost bite. Most people don t realize that the damage to the foot can happen rather quickly, especially if your circulation is already compromised to begin with. One elderly woman developed symptoms of frost bite because she was a native of Florida and the lowered temperatures in a house heated only with a wood stove in the back rooms proved Tbr her to be too cold. People who smoke, especially women, are prone to a spasm of the vessels that enter the toes in reaction to the cold and this can cause the problems. Also diabetic patient's who have some loss of feeling In their feet have been burned by keeping their feet too dose to a hot wood stove.
