Moon,—“That’s north of Nethers—North as in straight up”—he brought his pickin’ and strummin’ buddies up to Skyland several times a year for concerts and clogging exhibitions.
It was at Skyland with the Red Rose Flyers that Wood made his debut as a musician. Originally from Charlottesville, Lyt Wood has been Rappahannock’s forest warden for the past five years. Up until recently, he belonged to the ranks of music lovers rather than musicians. He made the switch in July, 1977, when he finished building his first hammer dulcimer.
“I had all this music in my head. I really liked the sound of traditional, old time dance music but I knew I’d never get by on a fretted instrument. I just thought a hammer dulcimer, was something I could play.”
