A Few Problems
Laurie is not a musician so the help she can provide youngsters with musical talent is limited. “About all I can do is give them space to practice and feedback on performing,” she acknowledged.
Another drawback in the elementary school's program is the area allotted for class space. Her classes meet on the auditorium stage at the same time that youngsters in physical education are running, jumping, cheering and shouting on the other side of the curtain. “It’s hard for my kids to understand that this is a contained classroom and that they can’t peek out under the curtain,” Laurie said. She added that activities in her class can be equally as distracting to the phys ed students.
These problem areas and other concerns will be addressed at a special meeting Laurie has scheduled with parents of youngsters in the elementary school’s gifted and talented program for February 3 at 7 p.m.
