Saturday Concert
On Saturday, the Rappahannock traditionalists will be joined at the community center by an old time string band, the Red Rose Flyers, from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Members of the band are cronies of Hudson’s, who comes originally from Durham. The park ranger spent a five-year stint in Texas as an archeologist for the state Historical Commission. “That was in between jobs as an auto mechanic and a bum musician,” Hudson joked. He picked up a liking for Texas swing “before it got real slick in the 60’s” from his house mates back in the Lone Star state and later expanded his interests to embrace Appalachian Mountain music during trips back home to Durham.
