noted that Angus calves paid off handsomely for their owners in the series of 30 feeder calf sales held the previous fall throughout Virginia. The black Angus sold for $4.65 more per head on the average than the calves of the next highest breed. The 16,337 Angus calves in the sales brought an average of $116.73 per head. Those of the next highest breed averaged $112.19 per head.
Myrla Anne Updike, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Updike was
n the Homemaker of Tomorrow for Rappahannock High School. She won the award by receiving the highest score in the written examination on homemaking knowledge.

Clarence Dearing brought a strawberry into the newspaper office that was found in his garden. It had survived several snowfalls in January and freezing weather most of the month.. The editor commented: “That strawberry must be out of its mind!" was the scene of die presentation of the Baylor Bards and Rhapsody in White on January 28 of 1961. Vying for their share of the county’s entertainment dollar that Saturday night was CinderfeUa and Song Without End in Culpeper and Sons and Lovers and Lets Make Love in Front Royal.
