Sixth graders in the program are writing an original drama about a girl who goes out for boys basketball. She makes the team only to be ridiculed by her peers until she sinks the final shot in a big game, winning both the contest and acceptance. Laurie’s students are working on both a video tape of their play and a rewritten narrative to go along with polaroid shots they’ve taken as illustrations. “Doing the same thing in different forms helps the kids to refine their ideas,’’ Laurie noted.
