In answer to a question from James Leake on what other chemicals will be used in the tanning process, Worrell listed lime, soda ash, ammonia chloride and formic acid—“all in very diluted quantities like 120 parts per million.” He noted that the same chemicals are already present in Rappahannock’s streams. In addition, Worrell said that about a gallon of sulphuric acid will be used daily to neutralize the water back to PH7 before it is returned to the river.
