They race either to match a predetermined unannounced optimum time; or it more stout hearted, to have the fastest elapsed time. The Rappahannock. Old Dominion, and Casanova Hunt Clubs offer individual trophies to the winners in both categories and special trophies for the best times in all three point-to-point pair races combined.
Race participants are of both sexes and ad ages. Juniors, riders under eighteen may enter the pair race or the fifth race, just for them. There are three divisions in this event over flat ground with trophies for the winners in the horse, large pony, and small pony categories.
The hound race, the last, is a wonderful finale to a day ai the races. A cross-country drag course is laid out with a game scent and over one hundred hounds are turned loose to follow it. going in every direction with some hounds taking days to come home.
General admission for a day at the Rappahannock Races if $2.50 with children under 12 admitted free Parking is $2. Food and beverages will be sold on the grounds.
