Under the indexed scale, first year teachers will receive'' a base salary. Then for each year of experience, teachers will get a cummulative increase equal to a set percentage of that base: three per cent for the first and second year's experience, four per cent for the third year, three per cent for the fourth, fifth and sixth years, four per cent for the seventh and eighth and then three per cent for each year after that up to 51 per cent over the base salary for lb years in the system. Using a base salary of S8.(XK) for beginning teachers as an example, a teacher with lb years experience would get 151 per cent of that base or SI 2,080. With ten years experience, a teacher would earn 133 per cent of the base or $10,b40 and for four years experience. 113 per cent or $9,040.
Any cost of living increases approved by the school board would also be applied to the base pay. according to the RCFA proposal.
RCEA spokesman Don Bontberger noted that the four per cent step increases in the indexed salary scale correspond to the points at which teachers generally make career decisions. The jump from three to four per cent raises at those points r will '■provide additional incentive to slay in this system." he said.
