A recent survey conducted by the Virginia Crop Reporting Service showed farmers' early planting intentions to be up from last year in 7 out of 9 crops estimated. Soybean planted acreage showed the largest increase, 21 percent, as farmers intend to plant 750.000 acres. Barley plantings are expected to reach 116,000 acres and Oats 55.000 acres, each representing a 10 percent increase over a year ago. Virginia com growers expect to plant 870,000 acres, an increase of 5 percent over 1980 and the most acreage since 1977.
