The Rappahannock planning commissioners took no action at last Wednesday’s public hearing on a rezoning application to allow retail sales of building materials.
Donald Brown is asking to have approximately three acres on Route 211 west of Amissville rezoned from agriculture to businesscommercial. He told the commissioners at the March 18 hearing that he plans to use an existing residential building on the property for an office. Brown said he will fence the area and provide parking for nine vehicles.
Nearby landowner John Gaines described Brown’s proposal as a ‘‘very, very good improvement...“Here in Rappahannock County, if you want a two-by-four, cinder block or brick, you’ve got to drive 20 miles to get it," he said, noting that the trips to out-of-county building suppliers were expensive.
