Despite the nationwide resurgence of interest in crafts that has seen annual fairs—and sales opportunities—spring up across the country, the Stranges are reluctant to rely solely on the new family business for support.
"We haven't cut the cord completely although we’d like to someday,” said Phillip who still teaches one woodworking course at Woodberry while Merrill commutes between classrooms in Orange and Fauquier. “We like that guaranteed income,” he added.
“We’ve only been to two craft shows,” Merrill said. The carnival atmosphere and traveling like gypsies from show to show tdkes a little getting used to. “I’m not sure if I like them—it’s another world behind the curtains at the rear of those booths," she said.
