speaking as a parent and taxpayer, Lynne Baines noted that the mood in the nation is to cut back on government expenditures. But, she added, Rappahannock did not keep in step with the rest of the country in earlier emphasis on services and education. “We simply cannot cut back on something we never received,” she concluded.

Following public comment on the proposed school budget, the board retired to executive session at 8:30 to discuss “personal matters not relating to public business.”

During the two and a half hour private session, the board was joined first by high school principal Dennis Wingfield and then by Billy Wayland and other bus drivers as well as a contingent of parents and students who reside in Gid Brown Hollow.

When the board returned to open meeting at 11 p.m., chairman Beverly Massie announced that no action had been taken and that the board would receive further information.

In regard to capital outlay /or the high school, the board agreed to send copies of its building proposal to various architectural firms that have contacted the school over the years. Responses will be screened and then four or five firms will be asked to meet with the board for interviews.
