wicked Witch of the West was all too brief. Angela^ Facchina was wildly wicked and moved with wonderful grace through a well-blocked scene, which culminated in her melting through a curtain. Her performance was confident and engrossing, and only wanted for some real water (half a cup even?) to make the most of the melting moment.
As the Wizard of Oz, Erik Niskanen brought a nice selfdeprecating attitude to the role, and, of course, the audience (and Dorothy et al) forgave him his elaborate charade.
Two instances of gum chewing in the cast were either a director’s nightmare or a bit of inspired whimsy—whatever the case, they were amusing. (Perhaps those actors aspired to juicier
