Merrill still stretches her hours to the snapping point, teaching art to a hundred or so kids at Grymes in two days, then instructing double periods back-to-back at Highland on another and devoting what’s left of the week to painting. “When spring rolls around. From Ordinary To Art
At her upstairs studio, Merrill turns ordinary ceramic tiles from a building supply warehouse into works of art. Most of her subjects are fish and flowers but she's branching off now into farm animals. “They're not as good to paint. Their colors don't fluctuate enough. Fish in the water give me great opportunities to use a wide range of colors.”
