This money from the state’s surplus will more than cover costs of hospitalization insurance for teachers ($30,600) and the difference ($46,176) between the index salary scale with 12.4 percent proposed by the teachers and the 12.4 percent increase applied to the current sale as suggested by the superintendent.
Pointing out that Rappahannock presently ranks 114 out of 135 school divisions in total maximum salary plus fringe benefits, Mary Denson Moore stressed the RCEA’s support for providing life insurance and hospitalization coverage. Approval of the fringe benefits, she said, will make the county more competitive with surrounding localities and improve teacher morale.
She also stated the association’s support for instituting duty free lunches for teachers with the special $7 per pupil payment from the state earmarked for this purpose and available for the first time this year.
