An adoption subsidy provides the family with a monthly income to help them adopt a special needs child and provide for his living essentials. This subsidy also helps the adoptive family maintain the level of living that existed before the adoption.
During the 1980-81 fiscal year, 113 special needs children were approved for adoption subsidy in Virginia, bringing the statewide total to.. 392 adoption subsidy placements.
Potential adoptive families may either be foster parents who are now caring for a child who is legally free for adoption or single parents or couples who qualify in every respect except financial ability.
