ne environmental Protection Agency has approved the Commonwealth of Virginia's proposal to administer and enforce a statewide hazardous waste program.
Peter N. Bibko. EPA’s Region III Administrator, said, “I congratulate Virginia on its commitment to control the movement and disposal of hazardous waste within the Commonwealth. Although EPA has recognized the national scope of the problem through the adoption of federal hazardous waste regulations, it is vital that states take the lead in managing the program to provide local solutions."
He stated that beginning immediately the Virginia Department of Health, Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste Management, rather than EPA, will have primary responsibility for Phase I of the hazardous waste
