other planning district counties were 4.8 in Culpeper, 3.6 in Fauquier, 4.0 in Madison and 5.2 in Orange.

Last July, Rappahannock's jobless rate was 8.6 percent or 229 out of a work force of 2,669. By August, the figure had dropped to 7.0 percent with 179 of 2,565 out of work.

The VEC office noted, however, that summer unemployment rates are normally higher due to the large number of recent high school graduates and young people home from college who are looking for work.

Rappahannock’s September unemployed rate increase of sever, tenths of a percent is lower than the increases in Culpeper, Madison and Orange counties.

In Fauquier, however, unemployment dropped twotenths of a percent between August and September, according to the VEC.
