The criteria for the judging include originality of content, logic, comprehensiveness of knowledge, voice and diction, style of delivery and poise. Penalty points are deducted for each minute over or under the allotted time.
The chairman of this year’s panel of judges was Dr. Gordon Link, well-known local writer and educator.
The Wakefield winners, both members of the school’s Forensics and Debate Team, each received cash awards from the American Legion, and their coach, Wakefield senior English teacher Mary Jane Reynolds, also received a cash prize.
