The one-quarter cent per bushel check-off of corn producers in Virginia should result in some $60,000 being set aside for use by the Virginia State Corn Commission according to present estimates, says Reginald H. Nelson IV. commission chairman. Virginia’s projected production of corn for this year is 52.8 million bushels and normally about 47 percent, or about 24.8 million bushels reaches market.
The monies realized from **TWC tftttmftent will be used* to provide for programs for market development, education, publicity, research and for the promotion of the sale and use of corn.
The commission has no salaried employees nor do the members receive salary compensation.
The commission held its First organizational meeting Feb. 11 in Richmond, and plans to meet quarterly. The next meeting is scheduled Dec. 10 in Norfolk.
